Tung Wah College, despite having a short history, recognizes the value of research and strives for advancing its development to complement its major role as a teaching institution.
According to the funding results of the Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector (2015/2016) published by the Research Grants Committee (RGC) on 31 August 2015, TWC has 3 proposals approved to be funded under the Faculty Development Scheme (FDS). The total funding awarded is $1,979,955, an increase of 57% from the FDS funding last year.
“Thanks to the concerted effort of our members, we saw an improvement in the success rate of our funding applications (from 9.1% in the first round to 25% in the second round). The newly released RGC funding result affirms our College’s research strength and exemplifies our continuous efforts in seeking funding for our research mission,” said Prof. Yu-hon LUI, the President.
Besides securing funding for research projects, the College has been creating an environment conducive to producing quality research. To ensure a high standard of research practice, the College has strengthened its comprehensive review mechanism by soliciting more inputs from external experts. In addition, the College would organize more training programmes to enhance the professional development of our academic staff and equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake research activities. For instance, a research workshop on “Keys to Preparing Successful Research Grant Proposal” was held on 24 August. “We believe that all these initiatives will build a stronger research capability and productivity for our College,” Prof LUI added.
