School of Arts and Humanities

Our mission is to deliver interdisciplinary programmes that blend professional training with a robust humanities foundation, fostering practical learning, creativity, and critical thinking to prepare students for the dynamic modern workforce. We envision cultivating students' "heartware" — ethical, communicative, and caring competencies—while integrating technology to address real-life problems, empowering graduates to tackle societal challenges and enhance human well-being across all life stages.

Dean's Message
"Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." – John Dewey

Welcome to the School of Arts and Humanities (ARH) at Tung Wah University of Hong Kong.

School of Arts and Humanities creates an unique educational environment for young people, fostering disciplinary depth, breadth, and flexibility, while providing core training for students.

Our faculties and staff aspire to strengthen students' core competencies through innovative teaching, cutting-edge research, and evidence-based practice, thereby laying a solid foundation for professionals in the humanities field and supporting high-quality tertiary education and professional training.

Our curricula emphasise the integration of theory and practice, encourage interdisciplinary exploration, and incorporate applied elements. We motivate students to engage in activities, pursue personal growth and frontier knowledge, and envision building a nurturing family of intellectual exchange and innovation, where faculty and students collaboratively pioneer the boundaries of knowledge. We hope you will find both and reach out to discover more in the ARH’s family.

Empowering Informed Decisions in Depression Care: Making Digital Mental Health Service a Choice That Truly Belongs to Everyone
Depression remains a common mental health challenge globally. Despite effective support options, many struggle to choose the right care. Our research explored whether a structured digital decision-support tool could help individuals facing depression make clearer, more confident choices. Findings revealed that participants using the tool felt significantly less confused and more assured in their decisions, highlighting the value of informed choice as essential psychological support.

From Lab to Life: Personalized Dementia Prevention through blood-based inflammatory biomarkers
Cognitive decline is heavily influenced by chronic inflammation. Our Associate Professor, Dr. Ma Suk Ling developed an Inflammation-related Cognitive Risk Score (ICRS), a comprehensive panel that weights different inflammatory markers to provide a single, easy-to-understand score, helping to elimate the impact of dementia.

The School features an array of laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, offering students a robust platform to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application.
