Biography

Prof. Gohel is the Associate Dean & Professor of School of Medical and Health Sciences at Tung Wah University of Hong Kong (Former named: Tung Wah College). He was the founding Head of the Department of Medical Sciences and subsequently the former Dean of the School of Medical and Health Sciences upon restructuring. He has been at the university since 2012, following over 30 years of teaching at tertiary institutions, including the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Hong Kong. He completed undergraduate training in Clinical Chemistry and Immunology in the USA and pursued postgraduate studies in Hong Kong. 

Prof. Gohel has published over 80 refereed papers and presented more than 60 conference papers, including 22 invited presentations. He serves on editorial boards of several refereed journals and as an external reviewer for local and overseas grants. He was appointed to the steering committee of the International Urolithiasis Society and has been invited as a keynote speaker at various local and international meetings on toxicity assessment, renal stone disease, biomineralization, and laboratory medicine. 

Recently, he was invited to the Experts in Stone Disease conference in Shanghai, China (2018), bridging clinical and basic science research. As PI and/or co-I, he has led over 20 research grants, with 10 externally funded totaling HK$7 million. He has supervised over 15 postgraduate students with an international footprint and focuses on educating the importance of basic science research and its application in clinical sciences.
