Prof. Wai Keung Christopher Lai is the Dean & Professor in Medical Imaging at Tung Wah University of Hong Kong . He trained as a diagnostic radiographer in Hong Kong and worked in public hospitals after graduating from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, specializing in fluoroscopy, computed tomography, interventional radiology, magnetic resonance imaging, and general radiography.
After more than 14 years of clinical practice, he joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a clinical educator and researcher. During his tenure there, he expanded into basic science and clinical research, serving as Chairman of the Radiographers Board's Registration, Examination, and Education Committees, and as Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Radiography programme. He later relocated to Singapore, where he led the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography and BSc (Hons) Radiation Therapy programmes at the Singapore Institute of Technology, overseeing academic planning, faculty recruitment, and strategic development. He also contributed to national healthcare standards as a member of Singapore’s Ministry of Health Diagnostic Radiography and Radiation Therapist Panel.
After nearly six years in Singapore, Prof. Lai returned to Hong Kong to assume his current role, leading the BSc (Hons) in Medical Imaging programme. His qualifications include a PhD from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, BSc (Radiography) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Fellow of The Hong Kong College of Radiographers and Radiation Therapists, and Registered Radiographer (Diagnostic). His research interests encompass radiography education development, cardiometabolic health (e.g., endothelial dysfunction and diabetes), advanced medical imaging applications (CT, MRI, ultrasound), and healthy lifestyle and aging (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome, breast cancer risk stratification, metabolic syndrome).
