The programme aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes necessary for competent gerontological application in diverse settings, while developing their ethical, responsible, and caring attributes and outlook in performing gerontological duties. Additionally, it provides students with opportunities to apply gerontology and interdisciplinary theories in practice settings, and develops their interest in and skills for professional and personal development.

In view of relevant healthcare courses leading to eligibility of Health Worker registration mainly provided in year 1 and year 2, only Year-1 entry students who successfully completed specified healthcare-related courses in the Programme within 24 months are eligible for application of Registered Health Worker .

There is a rising demand for multi-skilled professionals trained in the silver-hair market, creating unprecedented opportunities and responsibilities for those working with the ageing population. This programme helps explore students’ direction, inspire them, and utilise their potential.
TWC is one of the local pioneers offering a bachelor’s degree programme in applied gerontology and training students who will specialise in ageing. It is the first SCS-based bachelor’s degree programme related to gerontology in Hong Kong. The programme has multi-disciplinary contents, including management, health care, and social sciences, offers specific scholarships, is offered as an SSSDP programme, and provides articulation to relevant and competitive master’s and postgraduate programmes.
Graduates have a wide range of career opportunities, including health management, social enterprise management, programme design and evaluation, healthcare, research, and gerontechnological development.
Graduates can pursue postgraduate or master’s programmes in areas such as Nursing (Pre-registration), Social Sciences (Gerontology), Social Work, Health Administration or Management, Social Service Management, Social Policy, Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies), and Education.

This programme is part of the Education Bureau’s Pilot Project on the Development of Applied Degree Programmes. Approval allows admission of non-JUPAS local applicants via direct application, limited to no more than 20% of subsidised places for First Year Entry.
