Admission requirements for local students to bachelor's and sub-degree programmes at Tung Wah University of Hong Kong, including HKDSE scores, academic qualifications, and application details.

Undergraduate programme

Year 1 Entry 

For Year 1 entry to degree programmes, applicants should meet one of the following requirements: 

a. Have obtained Level 3 for Chinese Language and English Language and Level 2 for Mathematics and have “Attained (A)” for Citizenship and Social Development*, plus one Elective/Applied Learning Subject^ at Level 2 (“332A+2”) in HKDSE; Or 

Starting from 2024, the renamed Liberal Studies subject, which is now known as Citizenship and Social Development, of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) will be graded as “Attained” and “Not Attained”. Applicants with previous HKDSE subject result of ‘Liberal Studies (Level 2 or above)’ can be used as the alternative of the core subject requirement of ‘Citizenship and Social Development’.

Remarks: 

For non-Chinese-speaking learners, alternative Chinese Language qualifications will be accepted for students who have met the specified conditions: 

(a) students who have learned Chinese Language for less than 6 years while receiving primary and secondary education; 

(b) students who have learned Chinese Language for 6 years or more in schools, but have been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools. ApL Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) should, in general, be accepted as an alternative Chinese Language qualification, among other acceptable alternative Chinese Language qualifications. 

For non-Chinese speaking students, TWUHK accepts the following two alternative qualifications in Chinese Language: 

(a). Students obtained the minimum grade in the Chinese Language under GCE, GCSE and IGCSE: - Grade E in GCE (Advanced Level) - Grade C in GCE (Ordinary Level) - Grade 4 or C in GCSE - Grade 4 or C in IGCSE 

(b). Students obtained the grade “Attained” in the Applied Learning Chinese [ApL(C)].

3. Students with HKDSE English Language results below Level 3 are required to complete non-credit bearing English enhancement course(s) in the first year of study." "b. Have passes in AS Use of English and AS Chinese Language and Culture, plus one AL subject; Or 

c. Have two AS subjects in HKALE, and Level 2 for Chinese Language and English Language, plus passes in three other subjects in HKCEE; Or

d. Have obtained an equivalent qualification"

Senior Year Entry 

Students admitted to the Senior Year may be required to satisfactorily complete some bridging courses. The bridging courses can be Discipline courses or General Education courses offered in the first two years of the curriculum. Applicants should meet one of the following requirements: 

a. Have completed an Associate Degree Programme (AD) or Higher Diploma Programme (HD) of the relevant subject/discipline; OR 

b. Have obtained equivalent qualifications

Sub-Degree Programme

Year 1 Entry

For Year 1 entry to Higher Diploma programmes, applicants should meet one of the following requirements:
a.    Have obtained Level 2 in five HKDSE subjects including Chinese Language and English Language. (Applicant is allowed to use Applied Learning subjects in the application)*; Or

b.    Have obtained a pass in one AL subject or passes in two AS subjects in HKALE and five passes in HKCEE including Chinese Language and English Language; Or
c.    Have obtained a pass in one AL subject or passes in two AS subjects in HKALE and three passes in HKCEE plus Level 2 for Chinese Language and English Language; Or
d.    Have successfully completed a Pre-Associate Degree programme; Or
e.    Have successfully completed Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma of Applied Education programme; Or
f.    Have obtained an equivalent qualification ; OR
g.    Have relevant and substantial work experience and/or prior qualification(s) obtained in or outside Hong Kong (e.g. assessed through recognition of prior learning and credit accumulation and transfer), with demonstrated ability to undertake sub-degree education; Or
h.    Have reached the age of 21 years old or above before 1 September in the year in which admission is sought
