Tung Wah College (TWC) held an Inauguration Ceremony on 29 August for academic year 2025/2026 to welcome 1,686 new students who were admitted to 18 degree, sub-degree and diploma programmes offered by the School of Nursing, School of Medical and Health Sciences, School of Management and School of Arts and Humanities. Despite the decline in student population in Hong Kong, the number of new full-time student intakes was higher than expected with an increase of 11% compared to last year as of 29 August. The number of mainland student intakes increased by 26% compared to last year, reaching a total of 294. The significant increase in student population reflects the academic quality of the programmes offered by TWC is widely recognised and the programmes are able to meet the demands of the society.

The ceremony was officiated by Mr. Orlando Ho Yau Kai, Chairman of Board of Governors of TWC, who delivered a welcome speech to the new students. He highlighted TWC’s remarkable growth and achievements in recent years and said, “Our student population has increased significantly, reflecting the trust and confidence that students and parents place in our College. Our graduates continue to fulfil their roles in various industries, contributing to the advancement of society and upholding the missions of TWGHs.” Mr. Ho encouraged the new students to embrace the theme of the 155th Anniversary of TWGHs — “Kindness makes a difference” and to “become the leaders of tomorrow to spread kindness and charity beyond miles.”

Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC, welcomed all new students at the ceremony and highlighted the College’s 15th anniversary, “Our 15-year milestone is not just about what we have built, it is about who we have become: an institution rooted in healthcare education, agile in response, and steadfast in purpose. With these strengths, TWC will provide the foundation and support for you to gain a profound understanding, knowledge and skills of your chosen discipline and fully engage with the professional environment.”

She also reported that TWC attained its third Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) in August and expected to complete the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) accreditation within this academic year.

To accommodate a growing student population, the College has expanded its Kwai Hing Campus with an additional floor to provide 3 lecture theatres and 4 classrooms.

Professor Chan also noted that TWC’s programmes incorporate AI literacy to equip students for rapid technological change, and underscored expectations for students to think critically, uphold ethical standards, collaborate across disciplines, and support one another when needed.

At the ceremony, two new students were invited to share their reasons for choosing TWC’s programmes. Ms. Amy Wong, a student representative from the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Laboratory Science, said she was drawn to TWC after attending Information Day, where the College’s strong commitment to healthcare, social responsibility, and hands-on learning stood out. Motivated by her passion for biology and chemistry, and by the crucial behind-the-scenes role of medical laboratory technologists, she chose the programme to help provide essential evidence for patient care. She looks forward to applying theory in professional laboratories, developing strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and becoming a job-ready professional who serves the community.

Another student representative, Ms. ZiQi Zhang from Shenzhen, who was admitted to the Bachelor of Management (Honours) in Social and Business Sustainability, said she was impressed by TWC’s practical, industry-relevant education and its unique heritage under the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, which embodies a deep commitment to social responsibility. She believes the programme will prepare her to become a sustainability leader who can drive business success while making a positive impact on society and the environment.
