With a sound legal system and free and fair market competition, Hong Kong is one of the world’s most business-friendly cities and the fastest growing start-up hubs in the world. In recent years, the government has been proactively encouraging entrepreneurship and establishment of start-up businesses. To respond to the needs of the society, TWC launches Hong Kong’s first degree programme in entrepreneurship. The Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Entrepreneurship and Management programme aims to provide formal education to those interested in starting their own business, and to give impetus to the local economy by nurturing a new generation of business talents.
The four-year programme requires a minimum of 120 credits, which combines courses in business management (e.g. Managing Organisations, Human Resources Management, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Strategic Management) and in entrepreneurship (e.g. Entrepreneurship, Business Plan Development, Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurial Finance, Managing Creativity and Innovation, Small Business Management etc.), plus a resourceful selection of business and marketing electives. The programme will prepare students to set up their own business and pursue professional business management career by enhancing their business knowledge and creativity.
Dr. Humphry Hung (Associate Professor cum Programme Leader of the Entrepreneurship and Management major) said, “The programme timely addresses the need of the growth of Hong Kong’s economy and is tailor-made for students who tend to pursue a career in management and entrepreneurship. It focuses on training students’ critical thinking and analytical skills so as to strengthen their ability in analyzing and solving entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial problems, evaluating the legal, social, and economic environments, and identifying business opportunities.”
The programme focuses on integrating theory into practice. Entrepreneurs or entrepreneurship specialists will be invited to give guest lectures or seminars to provide a synergy between textbook knowledge and practice. Real-life cases of entrepreneurial success or failure will also be incorporated into relevant courses. Besides, students of this programme will be required to take up an entrepreneurship capstone project, which will be co-supervised by an academic staff member and an entrepreneur mentor from the business sector to work on specific industry or idea of their own interests.
In addition, the programme is supported by an Advisory Committee which is composed of leading business professionals and experts to give advice to the programme. The committee members are (listed in no particular order): Dr. Anthony Ko (Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Lee Sau Kee School of Business Administration, Open University of Hong Kong), Dr. Fanny Cheung (Assistant Professor of Marketing Department, City University of Hong Kong), Mr. Simon Hui (CEO of E.P.S.A. Corporation Ltd.), Prof. Gregg Li (Chairman of G. Li & Company Ltd.), Mr. John Chu (Honorary Secretary of Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Association) and Mr. Lo Yuk Lam (Director of Sinovac Biotech (HK) Ltd.).
Graduates will be expected to master entrepreneurship, planning, managing and leading skills and techniques to set up their own business and to manage business organisation in different settings (such as traditional enterprise, new businesses, e-commerce, or even home business). Alternatively, they can pursue post-graduate level business programmes in local or overseas institutions.
Those who are interested in our programmes can submit applications via the TWC website. Students can also visit our website at http://www1.twc.edu.hk/programme-information/bachelor-degree-programmes/bba_em for the latest programme information.
