(September 1, 2014 – Hong Kong) Tung Wah College (TWC) held an Inauguration Ceremony 2014/2015 to welcome new students.
Chairman of the Board of Governors of TWC Mr Ivan Sze said, “TWC provides a broad spectrum of practice-oriented programmes, we emphasize interdisciplinary learning, so as to broaden students’ vision and breadth of knowledge.”
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Ivan Sze extended a warm welcome to the new students at the ceremony. In his inaugural address, he iterated the mission of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in education for the establishment and development of Tung Wah College. He said, ‘After three years of dedicated efforts, Tung Wah College becomes a very important contributor in the self-financing tertiary education sector. Our first batch of graduates have already entered into the workforce of Hong Kong. Most of them are currently serving in the healthcare sector while others in various fields. Some graduates continued to pursue further academic studies.’ Apart from intellectual and academic pursuit, he encouraged students to show concern to our society and keep abreast of public affairs so as to improve their independent and critical thinking abilities. He envisaged that our students, by the time of graduation, will achieve not only higher academic knowledge and qualification, but will also develop holistically and are recognized by the society as socially responsible individuals of high moral integrity.
Acting President Professor Sylvia Fung advised students, regardless of their academic disciplines, to proactively equip themselves with a solid foundation for their future career progression.
The Acting President, Prof Sylvia Fung inspired these new members of the TWC family with 3 ‘Hs’. The first ‘H” is the ‘HEAD’, which represents ‘knowledge’. Our College has a well-equipped library which enables our students to acquire the capability of retrieving information and knowledge. Our resourceful teaching staff will facilitate students to develop their critical thinking and decision making abilities. The second ‘H’ is the ‘HANDS’, which represents ‘skills’. Our teaching faculties are experts in their professions who can teach our students how to master the applied skills in their fields of study. The third ‘H’ is the ‘HEART’ which represents ‘attitude’. We hope that our students can develop a positive attitude to face up to the challenges in the future. Our College provides many platforms to broaden the horizon of our students. For instance, the “Co-operative Education Scheme” allows our students to have real-life employment experience in large corporations; the social services volunteer programmes enable students to serve the needy in the community; the international collaboration and student exchange programmes broaden students’ global sense and perspectives. All these could nurture them to contribute in building Hong Kong for the future.’
Student representative from Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) [Major in Nursing], Miss Kwok Wing Ki regarded the programme as highly practical, and provides students with the required professional knowledge as well as consolidating theories into practice through clinical learning experiences. The student representative, Miss Kwok Wing Ki, a Bachelor student in Health Science (Honours) [Major in Nursing], shared her study experience at the College. She said that the Nursing programme provides students with the knowledge and practical skills through classroom and clinical experiences, it adequately prepares them to become competent practitioners in health care upon graduation.
