DSC_2110The Board of Governors of Tung Wah College announced the appointment of Prof. Yu-Hon Lui as the new President of the College for a term of five years. Prof. Lui will assume office by the end of 2014.

Prof. Yu-Hon Lui, currently the Director, Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education of The Open University of Hong Kong, obtained his BBA (Hons) degree in General Business Management from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and MA (Distinction) and PhD degrees in Accounting and Finance from Lancaster University, UK. He also holds professional qualifications in accounting, banking, company secretary and securities of local and overseas professional bodies.

Prof. Lui has substantial academic and professional experience in business administration, including accounting, banking, finance and education. He started his career in banking and worked as the head of Treasury Department at a foreign financial institution before becoming an academic. Prof. Lui had taught at The City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Baptist University; and the Graduate School of the People’s Bank of China for a total of twelve years. He was the founding programme leader of the first M.Sc Finance and M.Sc Banking programmes in Hong Kong, before joining The Open University of Hong Kong in 1998. Prof. Lui also serves as member and advisor on committees of different organizations, including Bank of Communication Trustee Limited, Cantonese Opera Development Fund, Employees Retraining Board, the Federation for Self-Financing Tertiary Education, Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications, Joint Quality Review Committee, etc. Other previous engagements in the financial sector included Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, Hong Kong Securities Institute, Insider Dealing Tribunal, Institute of Financial Planners in Hong Kong and Securities & Futures Commission.

Mr. Ivan Sze, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Tung Wah College said, “I am delighted with the appointment of Prof. Yu-Hon Lui as our next President. Prof. Lui is a strong administrator with distinctive qualities. He is recognized as professionally competent and very dependable. He possesses a profound knowledge of the education sector in Hong Kong and is particularly familiar with the operations of tertiary institutions. Prof. Lui has a strong vision in education and is capable of leading the strategic development of the College. I am confident he can take the College to new heights, and can spearhead the College’s work to forge good partnerships with the Government and various sectors in the society.”

Prof. Lui is pleased to accept the appointment. “I am very honoured to accept the appointment. Upon reporting duty, I will work with colleagues to our best to develop the College for the benefit of education and society,” Prof. Lui said.

The Presidential Search Committee, established by the Board of Governors, is comprised of members from the College Council and the Board of Governors, including esteemed academics, professionals and experts in the management and governance of tertiary institutions. The search process commenced in the end of 2012 and the finalist was recommended unanimously by members of the Search Committee. Following meetings with College staff and students in early July 2014, where Prof. Lui articulated and shared his vision of advancing the development of the College, the College Council and the Board of Governors, after careful deliberation, unanimously accepted the recommendation from the Search Committee. The Board of Governors, on the advice of the College Council, finally approved the appointment of Prof. Lui as the College’s new President.

Tung Wah College was incorporated in 2010 as a wholly-owned tertiary institution under the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGH’s).
