Three Tung Wah College Students Awarded the "Master Lai Ming & Mrs. Lai Wong Wing Yin Lingnan Painting Scholarship"

Three Tung Wah College students awarded the “Master Lai Ming & Mrs. Lai Wong Wing Yin Lingnan Painting Scholarship” (20 February 2012 - Hong Kong) Mr. Lai Ming, a master of the Lingnan School of painting, accepted an invitation from Tung Wah College and started teaching a liberal studies course on Chinese art last semester. The programme was mostly welcomed by TWC students and Master Lai decided to donate all his wages from TWC to establish a scholarship for talented and needy students.

Three Tung Wah College students awarded the “Master Lai Ming & Mrs. Lai Wong Wing Yin Lingnan Painting Scholarship” Professor Thomas Wong, president of TWC, praised Master Lai for his enthusiasm towards education and love of the arts as well as his support of the development of TWC. He decided to establish a scholarship named "Master Lai Ming & Mrs. Lai Wong Wing Yin Lingnan Painting Scholarship" in acknowledgement of Master Lai's help and said he hoped that students would concentrate on their studies and not fall short of the Master’s expectations.

Three Tung Wah College students awarded the “Master Lai Ming & Mrs. Lai Wong Wing Yin Lingnan Painting Scholarship”After several months of screening, Master Lai Ming finally selected three outstanding students, including BBA year one student Dai Yanni, Chan Chak Yan and Tsang Chiu Wing, to become the first winners of the scholarship. The three students will receive $6,600, $5,000 and $4,000 respectively. Beside the scholarship, they can also attend ten lessons of the short course taught by Master Lai Ming to enrich their knowledge of Chinese art.

Three Tung Wah College students awarded the “Master Lai Ming & Mrs. Lai Wong Wing Yin Lingnan Painting Scholarship” Master Lai Ming conferred the scholarship to the three students last week and encouraged them to work harder on Chinese art; "The 5,000 years of Chinese culture is extensive and profound, keep on practicing as that is the only way to make progress," he said.

Master Lai's liberal studies programmes in TWC focus on imparting some of his skills and show characteristics of the Lingnan School of Painting from his masterpieces, such as peacocks, galloping horses, flying eagles and age-old pines. He also shows how to use the brush, ink and color in a Chinese-painting style.
