(12 December 2011 - Hong Kong) On 12 December, Tung Wah College (TWC) received formal notification from the Nursing Council of Hong Kong that TWC has been appointed as a gazetted nursing school for Enrolled Nurse training and the full-time higher diploma in nursing programme was accredited for 5 years. The two-year higher diploma programme has been launched in 2011 and the first batch of students is expected to graduate in 2013.
The president of TWC, Prof. Thomas Wong, explains, "We submitted the application for accreditation of this programme early in this year. Following a stringent accreditation process, we finally get the result. The accreditation of the programme not only testifies TWC to the high academic and professional standards, but also reaffirms our status as a nurturing place for professional nurse."
TWC will continue to develop medical-related programmes to fulfil society’s demand for nursing professionals and the education and training needs of the practicing nurse to enrich the ever changing technology. For example the school is preparing to launch a 5-year nursing programme and a 4-year applied gerontology programmes soon. The existing students who studied higher diploma programme in nursing in TWC, may be considered to be registered nurses by completing the 5-year nursing programme provided by TWC in the coming future.
