On 27 August 2025, the School of Management hosted an impactful short course titled "Developing Financially Viable Business Model for Creating Social Impact: A Hands-On One-Day Workshop." This full-day session, led by esteemed instructor Professor Wong Poh Kam, attracted 15 dedicated participants eager to blend social purpose with business innovation.

The workshop centred on the social purpose-driven business model canvas (SBMC), a powerful tool for integrating four generic types of social impact—beyond mere profitability—into robust business strategies. Through interactive exercises, attendees learned to analyse and design models that achieve dual bottom-line outcomes: generating meaningful social value while ensuring financial sustainability.

Professor Wong enriched the session with real-world case studies from Asian social enterprises, demonstrating how SBMC has transformed ventures by empowering vulnerable communities, fostering economic inclusion, and driving measurable change. Participants gained practical skills to apply these frameworks in their own contexts, sparking innovative ideas for social entrepreneurship.

This initiative underscored the School's commitment to fostering ethical business leaders. By equipping participants with tools for cost-effective social impact, the workshop not only enhanced professional capabilities but also contributed to broader societal progress, inspiring a new wave of purpose-driven enterprises that balance profit and positive change.
