TWC graduates earn over $20k monthly on average, an over 10% increase compared to last year

(23 June 2016 Hong Kong)   Graduates of Tung Wah College came out on the top in salary rankings for graduates in self-financed tertiary education institutions last year, again in this year, the College’s graduates receive the highest average monthly salary amongst their contemporaries.  According to the findings of 2015 graduate survey conducted by the College recently, about 90% of the respondents have secured a job or chosen to pursue further studies.  Their average monthly salary is HK$20,583, observing an over 10% increase compared to last year. The College’s continuous success in achieving remarkable employment records in two consecutive years is a strong indicator that its graduates are well-trained and most sought-after by the employers.

A total of 184 graduates responded to the 2015 graduate survey, of which the response rate  was 80%. Most of the respondents were from the School of Nursing, and the remaining from the School of Medical and Health Sciences, School of Arts and Humanities and School of Business.  Over 44% of the respondents were Bachelor’s degree graduates, and approximately 56% of them were sub-degree graduates.  Among the full-time employed graduates, more than half of them were engaged in employment within two months after graduation and  about 40%  out of which got a job within the first month.  This shows an increase of approximately 16%  in comparison with the previous year’s statistics.

In terms of employment, the health care sector remains the most preferred sector for graduates as about 72% of the College’s graduates have joined this sector, followed by the business sector (10.8%), and social services sector (2.5%).  The rest of them are engaged in education, insurance and other sectors. As regards salary, the average monthly salary of Bachelor’s degree and associate degree graduates are HK$22,803 and HK$17,870 respectively.

Dr. Vivian Cheng , Acting Head of Students Affairs Office said: “We have more graduates entering the workforce this year, including the first batch of graduates of the Bachelor of Health Science (Hons), and those from Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) and Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) programmes. We are glad to observe an increase in employment rate  and a rise in average monthly salary. The career pathways  for graduates are also  diversified.” The College has launched the Work-Integrated Learning Programme (WILP)starting from the 2015/2016 academic year.   Through engagement in full-time internships and participation in College’s seminars, students will be able to  integrate and apply knowledge and skills learnt from textbooks in real-life workplace situation.  The WILP is designed to enhance the competitiveness of our graduates, and to expose them to various possible career options so they can plan ahead for their career development. The College organizes a diverse range of exchanges, visits, seminars and training workshops both overseas and locally from time to time with the aim to widen students’ horizon and to promote whole person development for students.

President Professor Yu-Hon Lui said that “The encouraging results reflected that our graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills for the workplaces and are well-received by employers with good word of mouth.” He added, “Our College strives to provide professionally-designed, practical-oriented and up-to-date quality programmes. We also review our curriculum regularly to ensure that what students learn can meet the needs of the market. We hope that our programme will bridge the gap between textbooks and the workplaces, so that our students will have competitive advantages in employment as soon as they graduate.”  The College will launch a series of new programmes in 2016/2017 academic year, including Hong Kong’s first Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Entrepreneurship and Management, Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Higher Diploma in Psychology, and the relaunched Higher Diploma in Nursing. The College will continue to nurture talents for the society through a comprehensive range of programmes with diverse choices of course disciplines.
